history

is Gods vision.  His answer to the prayers of the leaders at First Baptist Church.  In 2004-05, the church petitioned God through prayer for a new direction and as a result embarked on the Fresh Vision Campaign.  The idea of "Attempt great things for God; Expect great things from God" was adopted.  Fresh Vision included everyone in the church participating in weeks of prayer visits conducted by prayer teams that were organized.  God honored this obedience through the fundraising process and the Family Life Center or FLC was born.  The leaders in the college department had long since been praying for God to bring a new vision into the college ministry, something great and fresh, but most importantly glorifying to Him!  A mid-week college worship service was Gods vision.  A contemporary service, that does not stress denomination, but focuses on encouraging students to "plug in" to local churches that will help sustain and strengthen them in their walk with God, while at the same time creating an intentional outreach mindset.  This ministry is for students, including graduating high school seniors, to all ages and levels in college.  Input from students involved in the college ministries at First Baptist has been awesome and as a result this ministry is led by student leaders with the prayer, physical and financial support of the church and church leadership.  8:29 became the name of the service simply by default because that would be the starting time every Wednesday night.  So many have contributed so much to this ministry, including our Pastor Ed Walters and our Minister of Music, Frank Nihart.  A special thanks must be given also to two young men with whom God has moved on in their prospective careers and that is Will Williams and John Milton, both of which gave so much of themselves in hopes of living up to the Apostle Paul's motto in 1Cor 9:19-22-"to win as many as possible by any means possible"...

vision

exists to offer Troy students a place to experience God through intimate worship and fellowship. From the beginning the focus of the college ministry at First Baptist Church of Troy has been an outreach through building relationships. This ministry is a ministry to be led for Troy students, by Troy students. We exist to facilitate leadership growth by offering a variety of opportunities in which Troy students can plug in to. Small group studies are offered as well as weekly fellowship and game nights. We want our lives to be an act of worship to God, and therefore we believe in strengthening the body of believers by worshiping God together through service in areas in which we are uniquely gifted.

beliefs

AT WE BELIEVE...

The Scriptures:
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, the Bible is without error.

God:
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to man and to become the Savior of the lost.

Mankind:
We believe that man was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him, but became alienated from that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man is totally incapable of coming back into a right relationship with God by his own effort.

Salvation:
We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, salvation only occurs when a person places their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for their sin.

The Christian Life:
We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word and daily yielding to the Spirit, every believer should mature and become conformed to the image of Christ.

The Church:
We believe that the church is the body of Christ of which Jesus Christ is the Head. The members are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to a lost world.
